Enter Your Project in the Larimer County Fair

Enter your Shooting Sports project in the Larimer County Fair. The deadline for Fair Entry is Wednesday, July 8 by 4:00 p.m.

Enter your Shooting Sports project based on each member’s age division, discipline, and exhibit type. You can find more information in the Premium Book, with the pages for Shooting Sports linked here.

Shooting Sports members enter one project, regardless of how many disciplines they are enrolled in. Choose one discipline for your project and enter in that discipline’s division.

Remember, members must enter a project and record book via Fair Entry and receive at least a blue or red ribbon during judging to be eligible for state shoot teams.

Age Divisions

For Shooting Sports fair projects, the three standard 4-H age divisions apply:

  • Junior: ages 8–10,

  • Intermediate: ages 11–13,

  • Senior: ages 14–18.

Exhibit Types

Display Board Exhibits

Choose one discipline for your project. Explore a subject and create a display board to explain it.  Must be done on a 36" x 48" trifold board. Click here for Display Board Guidelines.

Stand-Alone Exhibits

Choose one discipline for your project. Make an item that is useful for your discipline, such as a bullet board for .22 Rifle, a quiver for Archery, or a shooting vest for Shotgun. Must be no larger than 3' x 3' x 7' to be displayed at the state fair. Otherwise, a notebook with photos and descriptions illustrating how the project was made and how it is used can be submitted and displayed at the Colorado State Fair, should your project qualify.

Decorative Item Exhibits

This exhibit class is not specific to one discipline. A decorative item is a project created from Shooting Sports materials for aesthetic value in decorating a room or building. Examples include a board with antlers, using feathers to make a picture, jewelry, etc. Be sure to fill out the Decorative project page in the Shooting Sports record book if you choose to exhibit in the Decorative category.

Much more information about projects, including specifications and ideas for projects by discipline, can be found at LC4HSS.org/projects. You can also find more information about Record Books and how to complete them.

Interview Judging

Interview judging will be held on Tuesday, July 28. This is an opportunity for members to meet with the judge for about 15 minutes and explain their projects. Interview judging is a great learning experience for members!

Interviews are NOT required. If you are unable to attend interview judging day, fill out this form. Then ask a club leader or family member to drop off your exhibit and record book between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28 so that it can be judged without you present.

Additional Notes

Interactive Projects

Exhibits are displayed in a way that prohibits the public from touching them, which helps protect the hard work of our 4-H members.

However, if your project is interactive and you would like the public to have access to it, please email Rachel Wildman at wildmarm@co.larimer.co.us by Wednesday, July 15. The extension office will plan to display your project so that visitors to the fair can interact with it. (Staff may decide NOT to display a project for public access if it poses a safety hazard.)

Accommodations for Projects and Interviews

If you or your 4-H member needs accommodations to better participate in the interview judging process, please click the button below and submit the form by Wednesday, July 15 at 5:00 p.m.

Accommodations could include a quiet room to conduct your Shooting Sports interview. Receiving your request now helps us ensure the best possible experience for all 4-H members.
