Archery State Shoot: Change of Venue

“Due to the Aspen Acres Fire and the ongoing drought conditions in Colorado, we will not be having the 2026 State 4-H Archery Contest in Colorado City. As a result, we have had to relocate the Colorado 4-H State Archery Contest. The contest will now be held on the Colorado State Fairgrounds, and will still follow the same schedule, with check-in beginning at 7:00 a.m. both days and shooting commencing at 8:00 a.m. Juniors will still shoot on Saturday, August 22 and Seniors on Sunday, August 23. In the coming week, more information will be sent out regarding which gate to enter, where the range will be set up, parking, and much more.”

Here is an updated map for entering the fairgrounds for Archery and Air Rifle/Air Pistol. All participants will enter in Gate 6. Air Rifle/Air Pistol will take an immediate right and follow the purple line. Archery will follow the red line. On the map, the green highlighted area will serve as a drop-off area for families to unload equipment, canopies, coolers, etc. The red road will flow in one direction into the drop-off area. After you’ve completed drop-off, find parking on the fairgrounds. We are not limited to where we can park on the fairgrounds, but only handicapped cars will be parked in the originally designated area in blue.
If you need handicap parking, you will follow the blue line and the signs into the handicap parking area.
Signs will be posted and individuals will be helping to direct parking.
Update as of August 12, 2026
When you arrive for the competition, enter through Gate 6 on the north side of the fairgrounds from Small Avenue. Our contest will take place on the northwest side of the rodeo arena. The map below shows the location of Gate 6, as well as a driving path to the contest area. We will have individuals directing traffic and assisting with parking. There will be handicap parking reserved close to the range, which is indicated in the second map below. After that parking fills, we will direct people to park in other areas of the fairgrounds. This means you have to park a little farther away and walk.
The map below shows the layout of the range, an area for canopies, the check-in area, the spectator area, and competitor areas. No canopies will be allowed in the spectator area, but spectators can bring chairs if needed. There is a wall between the canopy area and the range, so you will be unable to view the range from your canopy.
During the archery contest, there will not be time to search for arrows. You can search for all missing arrows at the end of the day. Please bring multiple extra arrows in case one or more are lost. We will be shooting on flat dirt and will have curtains behind all of the targets to serve as a backstop and reduce the number of errant arrows. FITA and 3D will operate as one shooting line for range commands and going down range throughout the entire competition.
If you plan to bring a canopy, bring weights to secure it—you will not be allowed to stake them into the ground.
As of now, there will be no concessions at the archery range. Plan accordingly for food and beverages. An update will be sent if concessions become available.
