Students must show the certificate of completion for the online course to attend the classroom session on Saturday, April 18.

Hunter education cards will be awarded to students upon successful completion of the course, which includes attending all class sessions and passing a written test and live fire. Rifles and ammunition for the live fire portion will be provided. No personal firearms are allowed.

Though there is no age minimum, we recommend that students be at least 10 years old to attend this class. All course materials are written at a 5th-grade reading level.

Hunter-Ed.com Online Course

This internet conclusion class requires participants to complete the home study program online first (https://www.hunter-ed.com/colorado/ – $34.95), and then bring the Certification of Completion to the in-person class on April 18.

In-Person Class

This hunter education Internet Conclusion Course will be offered on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19, 2026 (attendance on both days is required).

Check-in will take place on Saturday, April 18 from 8:30–9:00 a.m. in the classrooms of the McKee 4-H Building at The Ranch (5280 Arena Circle, Loveland, Colorado 80538). The class on April 18 will cover topics including firearm safety/anatomy, laws and regulations, hunter ethics, shoot/don’t shoot scenarios. Classroom time will close with a written test. The class will startPROMPTLY at 9:00 a.m. Please note: Students who arrive after 9:00 a.m. will NOT be admitted to the class. Our hunter education instructors have a short amount of time to cover the class material, so you must arrive on time.

One parent/adult must attend if the student is 9 years old or younger. For students 10 years of age and older, parent/adult participation is voluntary, but we ask that only one parent/adult attend per household to allow for adequate seating. You must provide a valid phone number when registering so we can reach you in the event of a cancellation.

Written Test

The written test consists of multiple-choice questions written at a 5th-grade reading level. Students must pass the written test with a minimum score of 75%. Students cannot use their student manuals or notes for the test. Retesting on the same day is at the instructor's discretion. If the student has a reading or learning disability, the main instructor can provide an oral version of the test. In doing so, the instructor will read the questions and the answer options to the student. The student will decide on each answer, and the instructor will mark it accordingly. If your child requires accommodations, please fill out and bring the Hunter Education Reasonable Accommodation Form.

Live Fire

The second day of class is the live fire on Sunday, April 19 at 9:00 a.m. at Clausen Ranch in Masonville. Participants receive hunter education cards after the live fire, given that they have passed the written test and live fire portions of the class.

Personal firearms and ammunition will NOT be allowed at the range or in the classroom. If you have your own eye and ear protection, you are welcome to bring them for the live fire. If you do not have eye and ear protection, we will have some to borrow. We will provide the firearms, ammunition, and targets. During the live fire, you will be required to safely shoot a .22 caliber, single-shot, open-sight, bolt-action rifle.

* If you are late or miss a section of the class, you will be required to make up that section at a later date before you can receive your hunter education card.
